Gutrei Galicia are one of the few companies that can offer and market ox beef. In the last year, we have acquired the only examples of Galician ox that have been made available for sale.
This is a result of the declining use of these animals as farm labour. They have been disappearing little by little from the panorama of Galician livestock. Despite the fact that the meat is one of the most highly valued, maintenance costs arevery high and the animals usually require an average of eight years before slaughter. Subsequently, the price is highly elevated and it is practically impossible to find ox beef on the market. In fact, many restaurants offering this product, are in fact offering mature cow, an appetizing alternative but not the same quality as that of the ox.
